Birthday Recap and the Hodgepodge

Here we are on yet another stifling hot summer Wednesday. A couple of things have happened since last we met. We had a first birthday (click HERE for the video if you missed it), we hosted a wild and crazy baby shower (which you can read about HERE), and all 4 lovelies were under the roof at the same time. Other than that, things have been pretty much the same. Ha! Normally, I appreciate the down time after the crazy but when it means having all 4 of the girls home at the same time, I'll take the crazy a bit longer. Oh and, my AC is out. OUT. NOT WORKING. They are working on it right now but someone is about to go into panic mode.

It's always good to be joining in the Hodgepodge. No crazy here, just good friends and that's what makes Wednesday great!

From this Side of the Pond

1. When was the last time you chatted with a neighbor? Last week. About what? (sharing that last bit is optional) Nothing important. It was the one neighbor everyone on all sides tries to avoid. I didn't make it. It was one of those, 'Save yourselves! It's too late for me!' situations. Yes, I was nice. Outwardly.

2. River, lake, ocean, or waterfall...which one are you most like and why? Lake or ocean. My dad lives on the lake and my mother lives on the lake, we live 3.1 miles from the beach and I find both lake and ocean to be relaxing and peaceful. Well, shoot. I totally misread that question. Ok, I think I am most like an ocean or lake because you can't see what's underneath. Same with me, not too many people know what's really on the inside.

3. July 13 is National Delaware Day. Ever been to Delaware? No. Delaware is called 'the first state' because it was the first to declare independence from the British. What's your state's nickname and does that moniker make sense to you? SC is known as the Palmetto State. It makes sense. They used Palmetto trees to build Fort Moultrie (it's on Sullivan's Island and that's the beach that's only 3.1 miles from my back door) because the cannon balls bounced off or were absorbed by them instead of going through and defeating the fort. If you were in charge, what nickname would you give your home state? The state everyone keeps moving to and they need to stop it because we're overcrowded? We should probably stick with, The Palmetto State.

4. What dish did you contribute to the last pot luck meal you attended? That's way too many years ago to remember. Do you have a go-to recipe for pot luck suppers? Not really. It depends on the time of year and mood. Y'all, I cannot for the life of me remember what I used to take to those things.

5. What is your number one tip for a brand new parent? Stop reading the stupid books and trust your instincts.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Our sweet Baby M turned ONE on Friday. I have just a few highlights for y'all:

Baby M was thrilled to have Nashville Auntie home.

There were presents even though her mommy didn't want to go that route this year. We had some at Grandma's anyway.

Mommy said no sugar either. She just held it. For the most part.

All in all, I'd say she had a good time.

  1. Aw, your granddaughter is so cute! I like the nickname you choose for your state. It seems like everyone is moving South so I can understand you feeling that way. Great advice for new parents. It seems there is a book for everything these days. Have a great week :)

    1. Thank you! I think so, too. :) It's ridiculous in my area the schools are overcrowded and the roads are so bad places that used to take 15 minutes to get to now take 45 minutes to an hour+. They've got to shut it down. The developers are destroying every green space around and yet people complain about deer and rats and such destroying their property. Idiots. Anyway... LOL I agree with you on the books for everything. That's crazy too. Haha Thank you!

  4. Ha! We have a neighbor like that too!! Thank goodness not on our block, but just as you turn down the next. She dresses like a witch and she will walk the street. All the rest of us, quickly try to take cover.
I too have been caught, I do the same as you, smile, chat a bit and try to get on with things.

    1. Lucky for you because ours lives right next door. Everyone else is great! Last week it was so hot that by the time I got inside it was too late and my allergies had gone nuts. It lasted for 3 days. Why can't I get stopped by the good neighbors so I can invite them inside? LOL Thanks!

  5. I don't want to move to your state, but I sure would like to spend the winter months there. If all goes as planned we'll spend almost 3 weeks there this November. I can't wait!!

    1. You wouldn't love the humidity in my area if you did move. The upstate is nicer but still hot. I haven't taken my flip flops off the last 2 winters. UGH. Are you near Cleveland? I've been there in December and I nearly froze myself to death and I am not kidding! Hey, let me know if y'all will be in Charleston in November. We'll meet for coffee or lunch or whatever. :)

    1. This one neighbor is always drunk when she's outside and smells of vodka and cigarettes. UGH.

  9. We used to have a neighbor like that; if she caught you, you'd be stuck there for a good 20 minutes listening to her ailments.

    1. This one is always drunk and slurs her words and wants to touch people. I do not like for people to touch me. And the cigarette smoke is bad because I'm allergic. It's not a good thing to get caught.
