We're Still Waiting But the Hodgepodge is Back

If you want time to slow down I found out how. Have your Mother move in for a while. That'll do it. Ha! For those of you who didn't know, Mother has moved in for a few weeks while she regains her independence from a 5-day hospital stay (Y'all can read about it HERE.) Things are going well and everyone is amazed at how quickly she's improving. I think part of the reason she's doing so well is that she gets to spend time with Baby M. Anyway, it's nice to have the Hodgepodge back. Especially since it's the first one with Joyce as a GRANDMOTHER!
From this Side of the Pond

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Well, I try. Explain. No matter how hard I try,
life steps in and thwarts every effort to do this so I've just boiled my time use down to this: don't waste any of it and try to enjoy (or at least appreciate) every second of it.

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? Yes. The Sullivan's Island lighthouse is less than 4 miles from my back door. If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person- I'd probably chose one in Maine since I've always wanted to go to Maine because, Stephen King.

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

When you've been away, what's your 'lighthouse' telling you you're on the right road home? The smelly paper mill. (Family joke, sorry.)

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Concerning myself with a certain family member. Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)? Nope. I think it was my subconscious that got me started and when I realized it I knew it was a good thing. This may sound harsh but negative, selfish people just aren't worth the stress.

4. We've had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far. As always there's this cutie face who loves to climb. No worries, that's her dad's hand right behind her. Doesn't she look grown up? Why does this time have to go by so quickly?

5. Tell us one song you love with the word 'baby' in the title. This will take more than one title--

  • BABY LOVE because I loved anything Motown and my cousin and I would take turns being Diana Ross by standing on an ottoman and blasting out the song into our hairbrushes.
  • BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE because it's sung around Christmas and it's so stinkin' cute.
  • BABY YOU'RE A RICH MAN because it's the Beatles.
  • SOMEBODY'S BABY because Jackson Brown and college and the love of my life.
  • SWEET BABY JAMES because James Taylor.
  • ONE FOR MY BABY because Frank Sinatra.
  • THERE GOES MY BABY because the Drifters and the beach.
Ok, I know. But there are a lot of good songs with 'baby' in the title. I'll stop here.

6.  Insert your own random thought here. We're still waiting on the arrival of Baby R but isn't it exciting that Joyce's little bundle has arrived?! And isn't he so stinkin' adorable?! Joyce, welcome to the best club in the world! I'm so happy you're a member! Oh and Joyce, there really is no such thing as too many pictures. 😊

    1. It is, isn't it? The ugliest one I've ever seen. The Morris Island one is nice, though. The new baby is due any day now so we're all on pins and needles. I love it too! There's nothing better than grands! :)

    1. I wish I could but she just keeps growing and growing. I would have to leave the state of Maine at night but I could handle it during the daylight hours. LOL

  4. I'm glad your mother is coming along nicely. Once, I had mine with me for a short while, and it does make a difference in the clock:)
    Good song choices...all of them!
Baby M is already beginning to lose some of her babyish looks... sniff sniff.
    Have a great day,

    1. Thank you. The doctor said she's to stay on oxygen for a while longer but can return home as soon as the physical therapist says she can. :) I know, Baby M is looking more like a little girl every day instead of a baby. :( Thank you!

  5. Waving hand... "Grumbly Ol' Lady" here!

Hodgepodge... Who thought this one up? A Joyce, I know.

Last one of these, was called "A Simple Woman's Daybook" or some such. Every one in Blog Land, was just writing/answering these "premade" questions.

Why? This was always my reaction, to that one. And now, it is my reaction, to this one.

Remember, I said, at the beginning here, that this was from a "Grumbly Ol' Lady". you were forewarned. >,-)

Mmmm, guess this is the inspiration, for my next post!!!!!

    1. All I can offer is my own experience. From one grumpy woman to another...When I first started blogging, joining these little shared groups was a great way to gain exposure and get used to blogging. After all these years, this one, the Hodgepodge, is the only one with which I stayed because this group has become more like a community of friends. A lot of us have connected outside of blogging on social media and whenever we end up in a town where another one of us lives, we make arrangements and meet in person. I feel as though I've known some of these lovelies my whole life. I love that we are all different in our beliefs and ages but still enjoy the friendships. I love that these ladies are non-judgmental and just all around nice people. :) Does that help?

    2. Hi Luna Crone...I think the Hodgepodge has morphed into an online community, and as Pam said we have connected outside of the Wednesday q and a. One thing I like about the Hodgepodge is it has served as inspiration for other blog posts for me and I know others too. Sometimes a question asked gets you thinking about something that prompts future writing.

    1. She does but hints of her daddy pop up every once in awhile. :) We tease him by saying she's like him when she's cranky but he knows we are kidding. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. Maggie is going nuts right now and trying to take us all with her. LOL

    1. They are interesting structures and so tall which makes them scary in my mind. That's a lovely family beacon.

  10. You're so lucky to live so close to a lighthouse because that means your near the ocean. I'm jealous. ;) I totally understand what you mean about a certain family member. Good for you for not picking it back up. Have a great week!

    1. I am near the ocean. It's only 3.1 miles from my backdoor and, if you walk to the back of our subdivision, you'll be on the marsh. The problem is the overgrowth of people in the area. Growth is out of control and it's taking all the pleasant out of the area. Have a great rest of your week! Thank you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
