Designing the Hodgepodge

It's nearly October but someone forgot to tell Mother Nature to cool down her temps around here. Hopefully, we'll see that fall cool down in a few more days. It's fall, it's football season, the fall holidays are coming...life is good except for the heat. Well and the fact that I wish I could put all the televisions in the same room so I could watch all the college and NFL games on Saturday and Sunday. Like my very own little sports bar! How cool that would be! Hmmm...Note to self: new decorating idea...

Another thing I love that hasn't been ruined by the warm fall temps is the Hodgepodge! And that's where we're heading now! Join in the fun if you haven't already. I promise you these are some of the nicest bloggers Y'all will ever meet.

From this Side of the Pond

1. What pets did you have while growing up? Dogs. Always dogs. As a matter of fact, I used to find dogs when I was a kid and bring them home. Even though they already had homes. Oops. Tell us a little something about them. What's to tell? They were dogs so they were the BEST! The first one I got that was my very own dog was Jacques, a poodle. Here we are on that very special Christmas morning:

2. What is one thing you absolutely must accomplish today? Nothing I can think of right now. But then, my mind is so muddled these days, who knows.

3. Where were you ten years ago? Right here. What were you doing there? Probably the same things I do now. 2007, as far as I recall, was an off year for happenings around here. And there's the fact I live a very boring life so... EXCEPT for the grandchildren, of course!

4. September 26th is National Dumpling Day. Did you celebrate? Apple dumpling, xiao long bao (steamed Chinese dumpling), chicken and dumplings, pirogi, matzoh balls, or gnocchi...which dumpling on this list would be your dumpling of choice? Chicken and dumplings! Have you ever made homemade dumplings of any kind? Yes, the ones that go in chicken and dumplings. I tried the frozen ones a couple of times but they just aren't as good. Plus, my grandmother would have a stroke if she were still alive and knew I had used the frozen ones. To be better safe than sorry, I only make the homemade ones. And I always use the big pot because there is no such thing as a little pot of chicken and dumplings.

5. 'There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find an adventure and those who go secretly hoping they don't.' William Trogdon

So which kind are you? I like to go in search of an adventure but never one that could result in danger that could cost any of us our lives. I haven't found anything worth that, yet. Not that I'm looking for it. Ha! The adventures I enjoy the most are the ones that pop up without warning. Like getting lost on the backroads at night. Until Stephen King novels pop into my thoughts or episodes of Criminal Minds because then it's all over and I'm not having pure fun or excitement anymore because I've become quite concerned about serial killers and other really bad things. Just sayin'.

6. Insert your own random thought here. NashvilleDaughter won the IIDA award for sustainability for her company, Hastings Architecture. I had to steal the picture from their Facebook page because I couldn't find where I put mine. ShoCkeR. Anyway, she's the blonde beauty standing in the center.

The link to the project for which she won the award is right HERE

Here's a picture of the award:

They won another award that night, too. But I was focused on the one NashvilleDaughter brought in. Another ShoCkeR. Ha!

Have a wonderful rest of the week, Y'all!

  2. Shame on me, but I like the frozen dumplings. I guess I haven't had "the real thing" to compare to, huh? Ha Ha
Congrats to your daughter, on her achievements. I know it makes you proud.

    1. I know people who like the frozen ones and they aren't horrible they just aren't homemade. Dumplings are not easy to make at least not for me. That's why we don't have them often. LOL Thank you! Yes, I'm always proud of that one. LOL I'm proud of them all but I do like to brag on them individually and they like it, too. :)

  5. Wow! Fantastic! Congrats to your lovely daughter! Definitely still feeling like summer here, but I'm not complaining. We took the boat out last night, went swimming, and watched a gorgeous sunset.

    1. Thank you! I was so impressed and all she said was, "I won a thing." No worries, they don't have to brag as long as I'm around. LOL If I wasn't too lazy -or is it busy?- to go to the beach I'd probably not complain as much. But I do love fall and winter and they've skipped us for the last two years and I miss them so. I have enjoyed your lake sunsets on Instagram.

    1. Thank you! I do enjoy the pride that comes with motherhood. :) I might be the only one around here who wants the summer heat to go away but that doesn't stop me. LOL Hopefully, we'll all get some cool weather soon. Ours is supposed to come this weekend but that remains to be seen. Or felt. :) Thanks!

    1. He was the best Christmas present ever and Tucker was the best Mother's Day present ever. :) I am not a fan of danger and don't understand those who actively seek it. Crazies. LOL Thank you!

  10. The definition of "boring" is very subjective. Also FB has enforced the FOMO problem.
Darn now I'm missing my mom's dumplings.
Congrats to your daughter on the award.

    1. True. Facebook is ridiculous. I can't even tell you how many people I've had to 'unfollow' on that crazy place. Wouldn't it be great to have those chicken and dumplings again? I can taste them now! Thanks, I'll pass it on to her sweet self. :)
