HoHoHo It's The Wednesday Medley

Goodness, the days are still flying by at the speed of light. A cherished, older friend told me it just gets faster and faster the older you get. I did not find that to fall under the category of good news nor did I find it encouraging. However, it may actually be a true statement.

I'm so grateful to Terri for the Wednesday Medley! I don't know why but it makes me feel we are all still connected and that was the thing I missed most when the hodgepodge stopped not that I didn't totally understand! There is no way I would have lasted as long as sweet Joyce did! Anyway, the Medley is here and we continue onward.

1.  Wednesday, December 19, 2018, is National Hard Candy Day! So the first question today is to ask if you enjoy hard candy, especially the kind we usually see during this festive time of year?  Not really but I always appreciated a piece of hard candy while sitting through church and not only as a child. What is your favorite? That depends but mostly I'd go with butterscotch. Which hard candy brings up the best memories for you if any? The old-fashioned kind Grandmother kept in the candy dish on the table in her living room. The stuff in the picture below. Lifesavers were the church candies and if you were super lucky you'd find some when Grandmother changed pocketbooks and let you play with the ones she wasn't using.

2.  Holiday shopping!  Are you finished? I am except for gift cards. If you could spend an entire day in just one store, which one would it be and why? None of them. I strongly dislike shopping unless it's online. I am not a fan of being around other shoppers especially this time of year. It's just no fun if you have to go around telling people where to put their Christmas spirit or lack thereof. 😂

3.  What holiday dessert describes you and why? We don't have a holiday dessert at Christmas time but we do have a table full of sugary deliciousness that was even better at Grandmother's house. Goodness but that woman was a cooking/baking genius. She made a coconut cake and a pineapple cake at Christmas that were both the most delicious things ever. I used to always put one of each on my plate because I could never decide which one I liked best. Do y'all remember those kinds of cakes? Four to six layers with icing in between each layer and how they poked holes in the layers and poured the coconut milk and pineapple juice over them and when you took a bite you didn't have to chew because it melted in your mouth?! And every single ingredient was from scratch. I remember Grandmother poking holes in the coconut with a hammer and screwdriver to get the milk out and then getting the shell off and grating the inside meat. Worth. Every. Second.

4.  What is your least favorite holiday side dish? I don't have a least favorite. If we don't like it, I just don't make it.

5.  Now be real!! There is one on almost every tree. What is the ugliest tree ornament you have ever seen? Is there such a thing? I don't have any. I love all my ornaments! Now, I have seen stupid ones but they don't hang on my tree. LOL

6.  Tell us something random about your week!! Just tying up loose ends but, for those of you who don't follow me via social media, this happened...

I told the mamas of my grandkiddos I wanted a picture of the kids with Santa. And I got in. LOL Where's Lula Mae, you ask? She was talking about Santa and wanting to go up there until they got to the front of the line and it was o.v.e.r. She screamed, "Take me to Amma's house!" and then, "Take me outside!" so they did. Opie is too little to protest so they put him up there. His parents got in the picture with him immediately after this was snapped but they are the only ones smiling because Opie, while he was no longer screaming, was giving a deadpan stare. The take away is I love this picture and have a story to go with it so it's PERFECT! And the most hilarious Santa picture I've ever seen. And we got a funny hashtag out of it: #hohohellno

OH, and whenever Opie looks at this picture he just laughs and laughs. Toddlers. Sheesh.

Merry Christmas, Y'all! Have a wonderful Christmas week and Christmas Day! Love and Hugs to all!

  1. Our littlest grandson is not exactly a fan of Santa, either, but then, his mother wasn't and still isn't. (She says the idea of some strange old man wandering around your house in velvet pajamas while you are sleeping is creepy!) I didn't know your grands called you "Amma." My kids call my mom that. It came out of my oldest not being able to say Grammy when he was little. I enjoyed your answers. Have a blessed and wonderful Christmas!

    1. We adore Santa around here so I'm hoping the littles will come to love him as we do. I'm still a believer! Yes, Marcy started saying it one day and it stuck. It was her version of 'grandma' and I love it as I'm sure your mom does. The fact that a grand came up with it makes is so special. :) Merry Christmas!

  5. I love the Santa pic! We had a crying shot, and then a happy shot this year. Ours was not too sure about the man in red, but Santa was really good about adjusting. I put it them both on my blog on Monday. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Time is flying, I agree. Next up-weddings!! : )

  6. That really is the cutest picture!! And now I want a piece of that coconut cake - or maybe the pineapple one - or both, like I always did with pie. 'A smidgen of both' always ended up with a trip back to the buffet. LOL
