First up is WEDNESDAY HODGE PODGE from Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. This meme is fun and sometimes even poses a challenge (read: she makes us use our noggins!).
1. February 22nd is National Be Humble Day...what makes you proud? What keeps you humble?
Most of my pride comes from being mom to the lovelies. This is also the very thing that keeps me humble.
2. Where is the catch-all (aka dumping ground) in your house?
Wherever Hubs puts stuff. He always dumps stuff on the table when he comes in and has recently started using the table as a desk. AND he has some of his stuff in the living room. He used to keep all his 'stuff' in the family room (our garage turned family room) but now he has infiltrated the rest of the house and it's an annoyingashell MESS. He has this awesome cabinet/computer station in the family room where I thought he would keep all his stuff but he just junked that up and moved into the rest of the house. If I have anything to dump I dump it in my study but it only stays there a bit before I put it away.
3. Do you make it a point to visit State/National Parks when you travel or even in your own hometown? What's your favorite?
We don't visit the local state park though Tucker and I have been known to frequent the county park. Our family reunion is held at a state park in the upstate every year. If we ever traveled far enough and were passing near a park, then yes, we would go through. I don't have a favorite.
4. How would you define honor?
Honesty, fairness, integrity.
5. Angel's food or Devil's food-which cake do you prefer?
They run about equal- at least when I did allow refined sugar around here. Now, I don't eat either.
6. What's the most recent road trip you've taken? Where did you go and how many hours did you spend in the car? Do you like to zoom to your destination without stopping or leisurely wind your way there with stops along the way? What is your car snack of choice?
The farthest we travel by car is the 5 hours to Breezy and BestSonInLawEVER's house. I prefer to zoom through the whole trip because I hate riding in the car. Especially with Hubs driving. Maniac. However, whenever there's an opportunity to take back roads to our destination, slow and steady is fine and stopping at quaint little shops is FUN! Our car snacks are fresh fruit, veggie sticks and any homemade treats I make with water to drink.
7. Recent headlines told how a preschool child in NC had their packed lunch from home taken away and a school lunch substituted by a school inspector who deemed the homemade lunch unhealthy. Reportedly the parent was then billed for the school lunch (chicken nugget meal) although an update to the story says the parent was not billed. The inspector was conducting a routine inspection of the classroom-he/she was not there solely to peek in the lunchboxes. The packed lunch contained a turkey and cheese sandwich, an apple juice box, a bag of chips, and a banana. You can read the story here. Your thoughts?
I will just say that God help them had they ever replaced (or supplemented) the lovelies lunches with processed foods. It definitely would have been 'on like Donkey Kong'. Is this micromanagement? Or is Big Brother watching under the pretense of actually caring about kids? If they cared enough, they would never serve kids all that processed food. Frankly, I believe it's the powers that be who need to rethink what they deem a healthy meal. Sorry, guess I said more than the one thing. Oops! LOL
8. Insert your own random thought here.
This is stuck in my head. Now, it's going to be stuck in your head too. Hey, at least I spared you the agony of having to hear the Carpenter's sing it.
What's you favorite kind of salad? I love fruit salads! There's this strawberry salad I found that we all LOVE!
How old were you when you learned to cook? I hardly remember a time when I wasn't cooking with my grandmother. And I was helping mother with meals as soon as I could walk!
What's your favorite kind of store? (grocery, garden, department, cooking, bookstore, etc) My top three favorite stores are Michaels (craft), any book store, and Bed, Bath and Beyond.
If you could have lived during another time in history, what time would that have been?I'm not so sure I can pick- it always seems like other time periods were more exciting or romantic but they had their troubles too. I'm good with right now.
I'm looking forward toBirdie coming home for a few days next month! And, hopefully the other lovelies will get to come too! And getting the garden ready! And winter! Wait...
I'm wired are you?

Ah yes, kids do have a way of keeping us humble. My hubs is also very aggressive when he drives. I had a small outburst on I-81 and he dialed it down a bit. I had to remind him we were not part of The Amazing Race : )
I like the same stores you do! Let's go shopping! I'm glad you have Birdie coming home. Is Breezy still blogging? I haven't seen anything from her lately, but I also could have missed it.Have a good week.
I'm not even going to watch that video. I know the song and I can't bear to have another earworm in my head!!! :-) And I am RIGHT WITH YOU on the Big Brother opinion. Thanks for stating it for many of us who feel the same way!
You won't catch me with that song...you won't...you won't. Oh, rats! I just had to listen :)
I can't even imagine how furious I would be with anyone who took my kid's lunch away from him or her. We had no lunch program then so there was no danger.
Joyce- Ah, another thing we have in common. LOL I'm heading over to leave a comment on your blog- got busy this morning!
MKM-Thanks!
Katie- The interstate is just too crazy for me! Too many idiot drivers use it. LOL Plus, the back roads offer much better scenery.
Nani- YES! That's a fantastic idea! :)
Patrice- Let's do it! I would love it! Breezy is blogging but whatever she's focused on keeps her attention and she forgets everything else. Poor little ADHD child. :)
Carol-Oh no!!! I had to cook. Else the lovelies would have starved! Good to see you!
Betty-I'm the opposite. I could NEVER keep it to myself. LOL
Judy- That thing is STILL in my head! STILL. It does seem that Big Brother is alive and well, doesn't it? I don't like it.
Stephanie- I cannot get it out of my head. So I thought I'd share the annoyance. LOL
So do you use any sugar substitues? We don't eat in the car and my husband seems to always be in a race to get places when we have all day to get there. I guess that is why Jamie Oliver was trying to change up the school lunches a few years ago!!!
Debby-I use Turbinado, coconut sugar and/or honey. I did use Splenda but thought that was probably NOT the healthy way to go. I'm in more of a hurry to get places but that's because I hate being in the car. With the maniac. LOL
You know how much I love these. I truly do. I wish we had a Michael's around here...have to drive 95 miles to find one. It's time to think gardens. I am going to start putting my seeds in shortly..not outside in the 12" of new snow but in their little pots. Take care Pam and have a blessed evening.!!
Being a transplant to the low-country of SC for 31 years is still not long enough to be called a ‘benyeh.’ If I stay until I’m dead I’ll probably go a ‘comeyeh’ since I am, originally, ‘from off’ (which is the upstate but, rules you know). By day I take care of my sweet little granddaughter, Baby M and do all those things I did when I was a SAHM raising four daughters which has translated to, ‘by day, I am exhausted.’ By night I blog, blog, blog, and blog some more or I sleep, depending on my level of exhaustion (do they still make Geritol?). I have a very unhealthy addiction to sweets (nearly any kind will do) and all comfort foods not covered under the ‘sweets’ category. I’m known for speaking my mind so, if you don’t want to know, don’t ask me. I love to find the humor in my empty nest life. I live life hard and smack into that brick wall almost daily because I’ve always had to learn the hard way. Why change now? I’m so glad you’ve come to laugh with me as I do this middle age, empty nest thing like a BOSS!
