A Little of This and Some of That

This week has been crazy because of Labor Day. Whenever the husband has a day off during the week, it throws me off kilter. I thought yesterday was Tuesday all day long. But, thanks to Mrs. 4444s and Friday Fragments, I know that today is Friday!

It's still so hot around here. Today, at noon my time (eastern standard time) several of us are going to stop what we're doing and pray for fall- of course I'll be focusing on begging for cooler temps--if anyone would like to join us please feel free to do so!

Birdie and I took the dogs to the county park yesterday. BIG mistake. HUGE error in judgement. And it was all heat related. As in- it was too freaking hot to be out at the county park with the dogs. Poor Tucker was so hot I had to pick him up and carry him. We stopped at shelters along the way and gave them water and 90% of the path we took was in the shade so it could have been worse. HOWEVER, the mosquitoes---there's no way they could have been worse! If we stopped for a nanosecond our legs looked like we were wearing black knee socks. Hate those things.

I'm just a few pages from being finished with the first book of THOSE BOOKS- I'll let you know what I think and whether or not I plan to continue through to the bitter end soon. I get a kick out of the fact that everyone knows exactly which books I'm taking about when I write 'THOSE BOOKS'.

DoodleBug went to her practicum school yesterday for the first time and she loved it! This semester the students have to spend an entire day at their assigned schools (every Thursday) and all of the schools are Title 1 schools. DoodleBug had a fantastic experience and said, "I never want to teach anywhere else!" I always knew that's where her heart was. Some of the girls didn't have such a good experience because of the classroom teacher---it wasn't pretty. And that's all I'll say about that. For now.

The mosquitoes were out in full force again this morning. The dogs look at me like I've lost my mind. But most people are used to what I call 'the low-country salute.' Which is the way we constantly slap our arms, legs and faces against the attack of the mosquitoes and gnats. It would be quite comical if it wasn't annoyingashell.

Sunday marks the end of Synergy, Week 3 and the beginning of Week 4. It's going well. If you're interested in finding out more or checking out my journal, click right here!

That's pretty much it y'all! Have a fantastic weekend!

  1. Our temps have been a little cooler lately, but after the best mosquito-free summer we've ever experienced since we've lived on this property...they're back. And with a vengeance! Uggh!!

  2. It continues to be a hot summer for us up here, too, but very few mosquitoes due to our drought. Have a great weekend!

  3. Laura- They're back here too. With that same vengeance. And they're driving me NUTS!

Kara- We had plenty of rain this summer. Which we needed...I just hate that mosquitoes come with that. You have a great weekend too!

  5. Mosquitoes salute - I like that. On the plus side, you get more exercise walking the dog.

  7. We're just getting over our rainy season, plus we have a pond in our back yard, so we've had loads of mosquitoes. Hopefully they'll start fading out.

  8. LP- They've been out here all week. And it feels like pin pricks every time they bite. UGH. Thanks! You have a good one too!

bill- Right. I do- because I'm running. LOL

Debby- Can't stand them! I hope it cools down too. Can't take much more of this heat. You have a good one too!

Vicki- I won't be sorry to see them go! That's for sure!

  9. It IS funny how 'those books' are so notorious that they don't even need to be mentioned! :)

  11. I´m dreading those mosquitos already!! They are just as bad here, when it rains. I guess you can´t have it "all" (i.e. rain, and no bugs). I had to laugh at your "the low-country salute". Sounds so familiar. :)

  12. Plum- Right?! LOL I'm on book 2. I am hooked.

Pearl- LOVE me some fall sweaters!

Betty- No, we can't have it all. I'll take the bugs with cooler temps. But I keep getting the bugs with heat and humidity. So I'm getting nothing. LOL

  14. Sorry about the heat and especially the mosquitoes. Original Listerine mouthwash works great here. Just spray it around the area, I've never tried it, but you could probably spray it on your bare legs, I'd be careful of clothes being stained, but it actually kills the mosquitoes.

We found out two years ago this worked and now I don't need it where I live as we have a large population of bats who eat them all before they get to us. One early evening I was sitting out with a friend when a bat swooped down and got a mosquito headed straight for me it was hilarious.

Now if only I could come up with a way to get rid of the sweat bees that are out because of the heat.

  15. Not sure where in the country you are, but we had a major cool down today here in Central Wisconsin - high in the 60's!! Maybe this cool front will reach you yet if you live east of here.

THOSE BOOKS - The Hunger Games?

I shelve them CONSTANTLY at the library, but have not even the SLIGHTEST urge to read them. Futuristic just isn't my style, but I appear to be in the minority.

  16. I got ate up the other day by mosquitoes. I will be glad when it cools off and they die. I prayed for your weather to be cool and I know God heard. :)
Have a fantastic weekend too. My grands were here today, boy do they make me laugh. It is good to laugh isn't it.
    Bye for now

  17. I hope your little noon inspiration works :)

We have gotten eaten alive in St.Lucia, I am so not use to this amount of mosquitoes it is awful, just awful and only because of this vacation do I know what you are talking about.

I hope you enjoy your reading.

I am so glad your daughter likes her teaching assignment that makes things a lot easier.

    Have a great weekend!

  18. Isn't it a great feeling when our kids are happy with what they're doing. So good to hear that Doodlebug loved her teaching experience.

Sorry about your weather. We woke up to 41 degrees here and it's supposed to be in the 60s all day. By Tuesday we're back to 80s, but for now...

And I agree with you about those mosquitoes, especially when we hear about West Nile these days!

Hope you have a good weekend. Our granddaughter goes home today, after having been with us for the week.

  19. I'm a recent empty nester, too! I think I can learn a lot from you!

We are cooling a bit here in Chi-town, and I am soooo looking forward to fall!

Spiders and mosquitos are my arch enemies! I smash first, then ask questions!

    Your girls are beautiful!
