Ringin' in the 2013 Hodge Podge

It's the first Hodge Podge of the NEW YEAR! WooHoo! Come on y'all, a New Year means trying new things so click on the button and come join us! You'll find the questions interesting and thought-provoking and the people delightful!

1.  How did you ring in the new year? At an oyster roast, of course. But not hosted by us--the pictures are HERE if you'd like to see them.

2.  What is one thing you are looking forward to in 2013? Writing. I've simply GOT to get the book going- which might be a reality as I have enlisted my college friend who teaches college English to help--YES! And birthdays and DoodleBug's graduation from college and the BFF's daughter's wedding and fall and Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas and football! Same things I look forward to every year!

3.  Steven Spielberg is quoted as saying, "All of us every single year, we're a different person.  I don't think we're the same person all our lives."  What say you? I agree to a degree...I change all the time. Then again, I'm basically the same person when it comes down to it.

4. The Pantone color of the year for 2013 is emerald green. Like or dislike? Do you already own something this color?  Will you add something in this shade to your home or wardrobe in 2013? I like emerald green. Especially when I go across the Isle of Palms connector and see it in the ocean. Or if was sparkling on my finger. :) I would probably wear emerald green. It IS a pretty color.

5.  Speaking of emerald...what's your favorite gemstone? Garnet, of course! It's my birthstone. They really are all pretty though.

6. Share a favorite book or movie from 2012.  I didn't see any new movies- rarely do any of them appeal to me. And the only new books I read were THOSE books---and I wouldn't exactly call the trilogy my favorite. So- I guess I don't have one. Is that sad or what?

7.  What is something you want to tell yourself at the start of this brand new year? For goodness sakes, find your ZEN.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.School resumed today. I was NOT looking forward to it one little bit. Fortunately, we only have three days this week. DoodleBug, on the other hand, IS looking forward to school resuming because she begins her student teaching! I love the excitement and idealism of the young teachers! It's almost contagious. Almost.

Hope y'all have a great day going back to work/school or just recovering from the recent celebrations!

  1. Jumping back into reality is tough. I still have my youngest home so we're stretching the holiday out just a little bit longer : )

    Happy New Year!

  2. We must be neighbors! I read that you cross the Isle of Palms bridge. I'm just up the road...in Pawleys Island. We sure live in a beautiful part of the world, don't we?

  3. I'm not dancing in the streets over going back to work today either.
Yes I read "those books" and I also read The Hunger Games trilogy. Dark but not bad

  5. I hope your daughter can keep her excitement and idealism. It is tough in this day and age. Hope you have a great 2013, Pam! We went to see the movie Lincoln and really enjoyed it.

  6. Seems like everyone is choosing their birthstones. ;-)

I remember the first day back to work after Christmas break ... hard to get back into that normal routine, isn't it?

  9. My birthstone is also garnet, so happy birthday to us! The oyster party looks like lots of fun! The only oysters I've eaten were char grilled in New Orleans. It was fun to see Clemson win the game. :)

  10. Joyce- I'm so envious! Wish I could have had mine here longer...or forever! :)

Marla- We're in Mount Pleasant! I love Pawley's! We used to frequent a Christmas shop there---spent a lot of money there too. LOL Nice to meet you neighbor!

Kim- I did not enjoy one second of my day. And I really did try to make the best of it. I just wasn't feelin' it.

Judy- I hope so too. But you're right- it is tough these days. I've been wanting to see the Lincoln movie. Glad you liked it!

Kathy- It sure is. And I just was not ready today. At all.

  12. I love Emerald Green! Now that I'm a redhead, it's just right for me. I only have a few things in that color. I guess I must go shopping! You know, that would be a great color for Wendell too. No need to buy him a saddle pad in that color- he hasn't been trained to ride. No need for a saddle. Maybe I can get him a gigantic turtleneck sweater.I could never put it over his head without terrifying him. Soooooo- I'll just get my daughter to knit one on him! :)It would make a great blog post. (Picture him moving along grazing, while he's getting his sweater. My poor daughter!) Perhaps I should just get him an Emerald Green hat! :)He'll be ready for St.Patty's Day.

  13. Interesting that most people's favorite gem is their birthstone. Wonder why that is? I love turquoise as well as lapis lazuli - if that's the list you look at. True to form, I don't get the really precious stones LOL

Emerald green was THE color when I was in high school. Um...that would be about 1963. Has it taken 50 years to cycle round again? In my memory's eye, it was everywhere that year. I was so sick of it. I have grown to like it since, though.

  14. retired- Thank you!

Wayne- Thanks! And same to you and your family! I have a senior who will be graduating in May! Hope to see you at graduation!

Susan- Thank you! Oyster roasts are a lot of fun but I can't stand to eat them. I just enjoy the fun. LOL

Debby- I don't seem to have any time to read here lately. And the movies are so dang expensive- you know, because I have to have the popcorn and all that. LOL The day passed fairly quickly today. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

  16. Sounds to me like you've gotten to like being semi-retired with an empty nest....huh? :) HOpe you get the joy of working (out of the house) back again and have a happy NEW Year!

  17. It is always nice to visit and read your answers. I thought about you going back to school today. I felt guilty all day because I didn't. I try to stay on the local school schedule then my husband came home and told me none of the schools around here went back until Monday so I was happy again. I should pay better attention I guess.
I hope this week goes by fast for you.
