It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Hodgepodge

Well, we're back to chilly weather. If we're not all sick by now, it's a miracle.  It looks like the end of the hot weather has finally arrived, though. And I am so totally digging the cold!

We have a production of Oliver Twist at school tomorrow. The students are so excited! And it's contagious because now I am too! Meanwhile, it's time for the Hodgepodge!

1. What lesson has failure taught you? Never give up. NEVER. No matter what. Which may be related to my stubbornness that makes me refuse to accept failure and keep trying until I succeed. It's actually quite annoying.

2. What decision are you glad you made? To stay home and raise the lovelies. Even though it means I have no financial independence. It was a good decision and I'm still glad I made it.

3. I've been a little bit surprised to see fully lit and decorated Christmas trees popping up for the past several weeks in friend's Instagram feeds. So tell the truth-is your tree up and decorated, and if so when did that happen? If not, when will you be decking the halls? I've noticed a lot of folks decorating really early this year. But not me. As a matter of fact, no matter how much I love Christmas, I am not planning on decorating this year. DoodleBug and Mr. Negative won't clean up their areas and keep them that way so it has thrown me off the decorating train. I have to follow my routine which is a deep clean that stays clean throughout the holiday season. They are not cooperating. So, no decorations.

4. Solitaire-Poker-Rummy-Hearts-Go Fish-Old Maid...which game of cards would you most like to join? Probably Solitaire. But I do enjoy a good game of Hearts.

5. This question comes to you courtesy of a Facebook friend, who once upon a time had a blog...When you're feeling stressed do you snack a lot or are you more the 'can't eat' type? I used to stress snack but not as much nowadays. I feel like I've gotten this pretty much under control.

6.  Have you ever reviewed a product or service on line? Was your review favorable or less than favorable? Yes. I do it from time to time and 98% of the time the review is positive. It really has to suck or they have to really tick me off for me to review negatively. I feel like they get enough negatives so I try to stick with the positive.

7. What was the best conversation you had yesterday? It was with my assistant principal and it was about conscious discipline. Blog post to follow eventually regarding conscious discipline.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. Thanksgiving will be here next week. Only DoodleBug, Birdie and SonInLawIntended will be here. I've learned to live with not having all the lovelies home for holidays. But I have NOT learned to like it. Everyone will be together for Christmas except Birdie and SonInLawIntended. They are going to see his grandmother. In Indiana. For Christmas. Yes, I know it's good that they go see her since she's 86 or so years old and only sees them every other to every third year. But I still want them here for Christmas. Sue me.

  1. I, too, am struggling with this phase of life, where it's difficult to get everyone under my roof at the same time! I'm with you, we have to accept it, but we don't have to like it :)

  2. That is the hardest I think, Sharing. I am not good with it and I really don't think I ever will be. It is a must though.
Baby number 8 is maybe being born right now, and I won't get to hold her until she is 4 months old at least, does it bug the heck out of me? yep so sharing is not something I do very easily either. I am a bit out of it today so I hope this makes sense. :)

  3. I definitely think that first Christmas with one child absent is gonna be hard. I hope you have lots of happy moments with the others to fill some of the gaps.

    Not even a tree???

  4. I have a daughter going off to spend Thanksgiving with the boyfriend's family, and we will miss them. But, thankfully both daughters, with both boyfriends, will be here for Christmas!

  5. It is very difficult to get everyone together for the holidays. I know that the older my girls get, the more difficult it will become, so I plan to milk it for all it's worth right now.

  6. Kathy- I don't think I'll ever like it.

Kim- I am not good at sharing either. I don't like it one little bit.

Joyce- It is hard. And no, not even a tree. They make it so not fun to come home every day. I'm over it. We'll have one at Breezy's house though. And that's where we'll spend Christmas.

Marla- Next year is our Christmas with everyone here. I am not a fan of the off years.

April- Good plan. Cause it goes by quickly. Just like everything else.

  7. We don't get any of the kids or grands for the holidays, so enjoy the ones who do make it home. I sure do miss big, noisy, love-filled holidays.

  9. It is so warm and muggy here. I was sweating profusely in Barnes and Noble while shopping for Destini's birthday gift. It was running down my face and shirt was soaked. I was so embarrassed. I have to say it could be a tad cooler now!

  10. Not that we're going to like it, but it's what happens when kids grow up. I don't remember the last time the whole family was here at Christmas. I think it's harder to get excited about decorating when the kids aren't around to help. And when you say no decorating, do you mean no tree? no lights? (I won't sing the Grinch song here, cuz I know that could be really annoying!) LOL

  11. Staying home to raise your girls was a wonderful decision. I enjoy playing solitaire. It is hard when they grow up and not everyone can make it to Thanksgiving dinner.
