The Watched It, Read It List

Today's post covers the second thing Oprah's website lists for women to write down before the end of the year: The watched/read it list. This is where you write down all the movies you've seen and books you've read. Are they kidding? This would take FOREVER! Both lists are quite long.

Maybe I'll just go for the most recent ones. Or the ones I've read/watched in 2014 so far...

The books:

I just finished a series by a Quaker minister by the name of Philip Gulley. It was his Harmony series and I read it after I finished his book, LIVING THE QUAKER WAY (which I totally enjoyed...made me want to find a friends' meeting in town.) I don't usually go for books like these but I found them quite enjoyable. The series takes place in a small town and can I ever relate to some of the characters in the books! If you've never lived in a small town, the humor might be lost on you. Anyway, good series for easy, light and entertaining reading. They were perfect for relaxing during the start up of this school year.

I re-read WALDEN by Henry David Thoreau this summer. I needed a refresher, or so I thought. It all came back to me on the first page but I read it again anyway.

I also read THOREAU ON MAN & NATURE compiled by Arthur G. Volkman.

Right now I'm reading a book by Lillian Glass called TOXIC PEOPLE 10 WAYS OF DEALING WITH PEOPLE WHO MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE. The jury is still out on this one because I'm still reading it. I'll keep y'all posted.

I read a lot about mindful meditation this summer including Jon Kabat-Zinn's books, WHEREVER YOU GO THERE YOU ARE and COMING TO OUR SENSES.

I read ME TALK PRETTY ONE DAY by David Sedaris

I enjoyed Elizabeth Warren's A FIGHTING CHANCE.

I laughed through VIVA LA REPARTEE by Dr. Mardy Grothe.

I enjoyed and puffed up with pride when reading the murder mystery, OVERTHETOP, written by my bestie from highschool, Nancy Klotz, and ROCKS, PAPER, FLOWERS written by a friend at school, Katie Sullivan.

I've read two books that I totally enjoyed about Vince Lombardi (whom I loved even though I was only one year old when he coached the Packers the first season but have heard so many great things about him) THAT FIRST SEASON by John Eisenberg and WHEN PRIDE STILL MATTERED by David Maraniss.

I re-read DIET FOR A SMALL PLANET by Frances Moore Lappe.

And then I read IF YOU MEET THE BUDDHA ON THE ROAD, KILL HIM! by Sheldon B. Kopp. Not what you think. :)

And I think that's all I've read so far this year. It's all I can think of right at the moment anyway. I don't read as much when school is in session as I just don't usually have the time nor the energy.

I'm not sure that making the movie list would be all that interesting since I don't, as a general rule, watch anything new. I spend my movie time on TCM and, sometimes, on Netflix and Hulu. I know I've watched a couple that were really good but cannot for the life of me think of the titles. I'll have to get back to y'all on those.

Ok, time to share your lists!

  1. Wow now I feel like a total bum. You have read all of that just this summer? That is so amazing. I think this year I have read like six books and three of them were children's books,
    The titles sound fantastic.
In a normal year I might have read 80 so it shows you how far I have fallen. :) I think the titles are amazing. I am totally impressed.

  2. Well, I was so hung up on the Outlander series. I read all eight of the books, nearly back-to-back, and they are 800-1,000 pages each. In between the 7th and 8th, which was just released a couple of months ago, I read the latest Stephanie Plum book and the latest Mrs. Murphy Mystery. Now, I just fished Palisades Park, and am halfway through The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

  3. Kim- Not this summer, this YEAR. I didn't have nearly the time or attention span to read all that this summer. LOL

    Betty- Thanks!

Terri- It sounds like you have more than one going at a time. I do the same thing. That way, no matter where I am, I can put my hand on a book. LOL

  4. That's funny you published a blog post today about books you've read in 2014, because I wrote about the same thing in my blog post yesterday at http://thoughtstipsandtales.com/2014/08/25/books-ive-read-last-six-months/.

Read 32 books but they were mostly quick, fun reads -- you read some more serious stuff! Impressive.

  5. I read approximately 50 books a year and see at least that many movies. I don't keep up with the movies, but I track my reading on Good Reads. I started tracking books because, several times, I bought books that I had already read.

  6. Well I could make a very long list of movies but not one on the books I have read! I like romance novels.
