Hot Hodge Podge

The hot weather continues to annoy me. As I commented to Joyce, "I am NOT amused." And I'm not.

But I am happy that it's HUMP day and that it's Hodge Podge day! So get yourselves on over to Joyce's and join in some Wednesday fun!

1.  In the USA this coming Sunday millions will be watching as the Baltimore Ravens take on the San Francisco 49's in the Superbowl.  What was the last event you attended that could be described as super? That would probably be Birdie's graduation from college. And, in May, we get to do it again when DoodleBug graduates. That makes us all done with college graduations. Well, except for grad school. Who am I kidding? We may NEVER be finished with college graduations.

2.  Share something you're a fan of these days? Football! WooHoo! Wait, I've ALWAYS been a football fan. Hmmm....these! THAT'S IT! I'm a total freak about the weekends now!

3. How do you feel about wings?  In case anyone is confused, I'm talking the edible appetizer kind.  What's your preferred seasoning on a wing-hot, mild, teryiaki, sweet and sour, other?  Do you make your own or is there a favorite place you like to go for wings? We do like wings. My favorites are the ones at Wild Wings. There are several flavors there that I like but DoodleBug and I don't do spicy. Everyone else does though.

4.  As long as we're talking sports today...have you followed the Lance Armstrong story?  Did you watch his interview with Oprah and if so what was your reaction to his confession and subsequent remarks? I did not watch it. But I will say this about ALL athletes who use performance enhancing drugs. I am less concerned about the doping than I am about the lying. For goodness sakes, WHEN you get caught (because you WILL get caught), at the very least, own up to it. The lying turns me completely against them. I HATE lying.

5.  What's a question you hate to be asked? When I was home raising the lovelies, I always hated it when people asked, "Do you work?" It got to the point where my response was lathered in sarcasm. One thing that annoys the hell out of me is when I've been sick and people call EVERY FREAKING DAY and ask how I'm feeling. I like to be left alone when I'm sick.

6. The coaches in this Sunday's big game happen to be real life brothers.  Jim Harbaugh coaches the 49er's and his older brother John Harbaugh coaches the Baltimore Ravens.  Were you and your sibling(s) competitive?  In what way? Are you still?  If you're an only child how did you handle competition growing up? Were we? You mean, are we still? YES. Especially my oldest brother and myself. Holy crap. We're constantly trying to beat one another out on everything we do that is similar. It's all in fun now though. We give each other a good laugh about it.

7.  What's your favorite game involving a ball and when did you last play? Football! We played around in yard when the lovelies were growing up here and there.

8.  Insert your own random thought here. During one of my first grade classes on Monday, the teacher noticed lice on one of her students. After sending said student to the nurse, she continued down the rows of computers and, by the time all was said and done, sent three more students to the nurse with the same problem. My head has been itching ever since. ALSO, and this is the kicker, one of the student's mom saw the lice on her daughter's head that morning and sent her to school anyway after telling her daughter not to scratch her head. WTH?

That's it. That's all I've got. Your turn!

  1. That's a lot of hodge podge!

Dad's always said he hated a liar worse than a thief. He said, sometimes, when people are hungry there is a REASON to steal. There is never a REASON to lie.

  2. How well I remember the lice epidemics at school! Makes my head itch just thinking about it!

  3. Seeing lice and sending them to school anyway? nooooo! You gotta figure they're around you and you've been safe up til now...hope your luck holds!

  4. Ooh...the very thought of lice gives me the heebie jeebies! I remember when I worked in the schools as a speech pathologist and, for some reason, I had to do a lice check on a child. Definitely was not a fan.

  5. Itch, Itch, Itch!!! UGH, that like sending them on the bus but they just threw up 10 minutes before it came. WHY??? You know what it's like have puke on a bus with 56 students and still have an hour or so to go. ICK!!! Glad the clean up sticks it together and I had an extra shirt with in my bag so just threw that over the top of what was left after wipe up. Bus still smells even after it's bath and disinfecting. Glad it's zero, the smell isn't strong when it's cold.
You didn't say how the strike or lack there of went? Did it all turn out okay?
    Have a blessed day.

  6. Oh I have always hated lice. It is all the nit-picking.

  7. I can't believe someone sent their child to school knowing they had lice! And my head is itching just reading about it. : )

  8. Argh! Lice. I'm so grateful I somehow managed to escape that in school - my Mum always insisted on pulling my hair into a tight french plait as she believed it would be less difficult to catch them that way.

As for number 5 - parenting is the toughest job there is...! I know that and I'm not even one myself.

  9. Gail- I totally agree with your dad!

Kathy- My head finally stopped itching. Until I wrote this post. LOL

Joyce- I don't have to get close enough to them to get any on me. At least I hope that's the case. LOL Also this week there was one who got out of the car with a 101 degree temp. What's up with some of these parents?

April- I don't like it either. That mom sent her kid right back to school yesterday too- and she still had the lice.

Julie- Throw up and lice. Sheesh, the things we put up with. :) The talks are still going on, no strike yet.

retired- Hahahahahaha! Nit picking! Too funny!

Jill- It happens more than you realize. And they send them with fevers too.

Laura Anne- I hate those nasty things. When the lovelies were little and there was an outbreak at school and they came home with them, I washed their hair in Dawn dishwashing liquid and they never had another one.

  10. What happened to the phrase RESPECT for others?...:)JP

  11. Lying is bad...stupidity is even worse. I mean why lie for years and years - even when the whole world pretty much knows you're lying - and then break down and expect people are going to have any sympathy? Just stupid.

Only one lice scare when my daughter was in grade 3 - the child who brought them to school had the same message from her mother. More stupid.

  12. Oh the lice! I remember it well. Sooooo glad I'm not there anymore. Hope you didn't get any, but just writing this makes my head itch! lol

  13. I am dying to know did the mother admit to doing such a thing or did the little one divulge that little tidbit? I know I shouldn't laugh but oh, my, just shaking my head at what parents do :)

  14. I've never been to a Wild Wings but I passed one yesterday. I will have to try some. I agree with you answer on the lies when getting caught. That was very wrong of that mom. My kids got lice when they were in grade school. The school ended up getting large bags for each child to put their coats, mittens, hats, etc. in so they wouldn't touch each other. I know my great niece had them when I was in Florida and no one seemed concerned. I felt itch after that but didn't have them. A few weeks later my niece was bitching because of all the things she had to do to her house and kids to get rid of them.

  15. you're so funny, may never be finished with college graduations!
I love weekends too, even though I do like my work..a lot!
can't believe that mother???sending her child to school with lice, how would she like if someone did that to her?
    Hate lying too, it's insulting.
I'm the opposite to you when sick, I was really hurt that some friends didn't text at all to see how I was (attention seeking, I am!)

  16. JP- I'm afraid that went out a long time ago. Sad.

Kathy- Right?! I don't expect people to be perfect and never make mistakes/take the low road/etc. BUT, they really should own up to it when caught.

Stephanie- Agreed. It's the lying that keeps the sympathy away. I can understand poor decisions, but not lying about it.

Betty- My head did stop itching but it was not pleasant. I hate those things.

Lucy- I was never quite clear on that but, I think it was the kid and then the mother confirmed it. The next day a mother sent her son to school with a 101 degree temp. Idiots.

Debby- When we had an outbreak at school when the lovelies were little, I washed their hair in Dawn dishwashing liquid and they never had another one!

Mimi- I'm the same way about weekends and work. I wish I could say that the mother is a rarity, but she's not. It's sad, really. Even though I don't like to be bothered when I'm sick, I'll bother others when they're sick. It's crazy! LOL

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! It makes me feel connected to everyone even though we may live far apart! Have a wonderful day!
